It’s really amazing sometimes how people manage to get so much information on any given person, any given topic, etc, all through the power of the internet. A lot of times I have to admit that I don’t like direct mail lists companies, because to be honest, they are not careful enough about who they give information out to. I mean they have everything sometimes from names to emails to work history to everything, and that’s a scary thought.

Generally speaking, more reputable companies who provide direct mail lists either buy it themselves or they get it through some kind of ad or survey of some kind. Yes, there are some who say they will never share your information, but to be honest, they are lying, I guarantee it. But they know there’s no way you can really trace it back to them when you get those spam mails. But the more reputable ones, yes they give out your information. But these direct mail lists companies get more information on the buyer, and frankly they specialize the lists to people who might actually be interested in these products rather than just being spammed.

How does information get on direct mail lists? Well, it’s complicated, and there are many ways. When you see the pop ups on sites that are generally Google ads and they say for example just catch the duck or win a free ipod, well those are always taking your information to sell or otherwise use. But to be honest, if you do things right, you will only be on direct mail lists that you are actually interested in.
