Insomnia is thought to affect about 30 percent of adults and it is said we can no longer just ignore the impact of sleep problems in the country. We are affecting our health, our economy and our everyday lives. They say those who suffer insomnia are 4 times as likely to have relationship problems. They say we are 3 times as likely to feel depressed and 3 times as likely to suffer from lack of concentration. If those statistics don’t make you feel weary nothing will. Poor sleep has already been linked to depression, immune deficiency and heart disease. We just don’t realize how important it is for our body to get the sleep we need to replenish both mind and body. Our bodies are working overtime when we are asleep and we don’t even know it! When we get a good night’s sleep we wake up excited to handle another day but when we have a horrible night’s sleep we feel like we have been run over by a bus the next day. That is why we search to see what is out there to help us overcome this battle of sleeplessness. One of those we need to look at is Rozerem. This is a prescription sleep aid. It says it works with your body’s internal clock to promote sleep. I had to chuckle when they said it is not likely to leave you feeling groggy or hungover the next day! That sounds reassuring! Let’s check this out.
How Does Rozerem Work?
It works by affecting certain substances in your body that help regulate your wake-sleep cycle. It is a melatonin receptor agonist meaning it works similarly to melatonin. Melatonin is a hormone that is produced in the small pineal gland found in the brain. Melatonin helps us to know when to go to sleep and when we are deficient in it our wake sleep cycle gets all messed up. This drug is only approved to help patients fall asleep, not to keep them asleep through the night.
Side Effects of Rozerem
There are many warnings that come with this drug. It says not to take unless you have time to sleep 7 to 8 hours. If you are having an allergic reaction, such as swelling of the tongue or throat, trouble breathing, nausea and vomiting you are advised to call your doctor immediately. Don’t take if you are taking Luvox or have severe liver problems. Side effects are dizziness, fatigue and nausea. It also says do not take if you have worsening depression, suicidal thoughts, hallucinations and nightmares.
Final Word on Rozerem
Just the warnings about this drug scares you away! It says it works just like melatonin but it sure can have side effects that are not pleasing. In fact some people have complained about having vivid nightmares. They also said it helped them fall asleep but they kept waking up periodically during the night. That does not sound like a restful night sleep to me and who wants to have nightmares!! It also says it is only approved for help in falling asleep but most insomniacs have problems staying asleep. There must be better sleep aids out there so I would recommend looking at Bestsleepingpills.org’s list of recommendations.
